Unique Harleys, Sailor Jerry rum, beards and tattoos – could there be a better way to spend your days off? Londoners take note; this weekend will see all four entities take over Tobacco Dock for The Bike Shed’s Battle of the Kings competition. In the lead up to the biking battle off, Old Street’s The Bike Shed Motorcycle Club hosted a ride-or-die preview evening for enthusiasts to get a sneak peak of all the impressive designs and we went along to give you an insight of what to expect.
Aside from a gloried array of over 100 one-off designs from the new wave custom scene for you to peruse, the weekend will mark the crowning of the winner of the Battle of the Kings competition; whereby five individually designed Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883’s compete for the prestigious title. Contenders include Dublin Harley-Davidson and last year’s winner Warr’s Kings Road.
And there’ll be no resting on laurels for whoever wins – the champion will have to roll up their sleeves as they head on to represent the UK & Ireland at Wheels and Waves in France in June to battle on for the Harley-Davidson Europe, Middle East and Africa title.
Furthermore Tobacco Dock will also host manufacturers from Triumph and Yamaha for the weekend, who’ll be building their own custom piece on site, as well as art, photography, apparel, food, a bar and in fitting with the scene, there’ll even be a four-chair barbershop and three tattooists. Whew!
Having also teamed up with Harley Davidson, rum brand, Sailor Jerry was also in attendance at The Bike Shed’s preview to support the bike owners who will soon be taking on ‘The Ride’. On the night, bike enthusiasts got to sample some of Sailor Jerry’s wares, thanks to the nifty pop-up bar dishing out an array of rum cocktails, which nicely washed down the tasty bites rustled up by the chefs at The Bike Shed.
Running from July 2nd to 10th, The Ride will task its three competing teams with pit bike races, cutting each other’s hair and wearing their helmet for 24 hours straight in a bid to be crowned champions of The Ride. Aside from the glory of being the baddest biker in town, the team will win a Harley-Davidson Street Bob, of which they’ll be riding their own customised version and a trip to Hawaii – the home of Sailor Jerry himself.
See how the teams get on during The Ride 2016 in a series of six videos airing across Sailor Jerry channels from 18th July and follow it at #TheRideSJUK.
